MSC.Software and IBM Team to Provide Design Engineers With a Powerful New E-Business Platform

MSC.Software's MSC.Nastran Now Available on New IBM eServer, Giving Automotive Design Engineers Advanced Performance and Reduced Design Time and Costs

SANTA ANA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 4, 2001-- MSC.Software Corp. (NYSE: MNS), today announced MSC.Software's support for the IBM eServer pSeries 690, a next-generation binary-compatible system powered by IBM's POWER4 microprocessor.

This server will allow applications like MSC.Nastran to run significantly faster, giving design engineers the optimum speed and performance to reduce costs and development time by more than 50 percent.

"The advances in hardware and processing speed have had a significant positive impact on the entire product design and simulation industry," said Frank Perna, chairman and chief executive officer of MSC.Software. "MSC has been a long time partner of IBM and will continue to support any product that makes our software more valuable to our customers."

"Working in partnership with leading software vendors, IBM offers a comprehensive portfolio of software and hardware solutions to effectively manage a company's e-business infrastructure," said Val Rahmani, vice president, marketing operations, IBM Web Servers unit. "As an industry-leading platform for design and simulation software, the new IBM eServer p690 meets the business-critical need of our customers' most demanding computing environments."

The combination of MSC.Nastran and the IBM eServer p690 is an important development for the automotive industry, where design engineers run complex designs through advanced simulation testing on a daily basis. The IBM eServer pSeries 690 is a datacenter-class UNIX server, containing up to 32 POWER4 microprocessors.

It has an extensive range of configuration options, including the support of Linux, an important new computing environment that is increasingly being used within the automotive industry.

POWER4 is the world's first dual processing computer chip, incorporating IBM's innovative copper and silicon-on-insulator technology, providing engineers with superior performance for the increasingly demanding design and testing required in the automotive and other industrial manufacturing industries.
