BOSTON, Sept. 10, 2015 — (PRNewswire) — Massachusetts College of Art
and Design (MassArt) announces the launch of a
Master of Design Innovation (MDes) program
. The MDes program integrates deep expertise in design practice with business discipline in a broad-based curriculum that uses market challenges and social initiatives as the context for learning. The program is a full-time, two-year (60 credit hours) interdisciplinary course of study intended for those who want to lead the design and planning of new products, services, environments, and experiences. Emphasizing four key skill areas (empathy, analysis, contextual understanding, and communication), the curriculum is designed to teach students how to effectively define and solve a problem, and to impart critical leadership skills for mobilizing and motivating teams toward successful outcomes. The MassArt MDes program is accredited by NASAD (National Association of Schools of Art and Design) and will be among the first of its kind in the state of Massachusetts
. This program expands on MassArt's mission to fuel the creative economy in Massachusetts
, utilizing the arts as a force in the economy and the innovation sector.
The College will enroll the first class of students for the fall 2016 semester. Students are invited to attend the Graduate Programs Open House at MassArt on Saturday, October 17 or visit MassArt Graduate Admissions representatives at a Graduate National Portfolio Day this fall.
