The Society for Information Display (SID) Will Host Its 49th Annual Conference May 15-20 in Downtown Los Angeles

More Than 6,500 People Are Expected to Attend the Weeklong Exhibition, Resulting in a $7 Million Economic Impact Citywide

LOS ANGELES — (BUSINESS WIRE) — April 27, 2011 — Display Week 2011, the 49th International Symposium, Seminar and Exhibition, hosted by The Society for Information Display (SID), will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center starting Sunday, May 15, through Friday, May 20. Last held in Los Angeles in 2008, the return of this prestigious gathering will result in nearly 8,000 total room nights—divided among the Marriott Los Angeles at LA LIVE and the Westin Bonaventure Hotel and Suites—resulting in an economic impact of more than $7 million citywide.

SID is the premier organization of scientists, engineers, manufacturers and users in the field of electronic-information displays.

“Considering Hollywood is the birthplace of the Society for Information Display, we’re extremely pleased to welcome this prestigious group of innovators home,” said Mark Liberman, president and CEO of LA INC. The Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau. “LA is always at the forefront of technology with many cutting-edge corporations leading the way. The professionals representing SID include all of the technical and business disciplines that relate to display research, design, manufacturing, applications, marketing and sales. It’s very relative to what is taking place within our city.”

The weeklong event provides access to a wide range of display-related technologies and applications. Attendees can learn about state-of-the-art technology, such as image processing, systems software and display processor harder, human factors and applied vision along with exciting new application areas, such as 3-D technology and electronic cinema, touch and interactivity, solid-state lighting and green technologies.

Delivering this year’s keynote address is innovator Phil “Captain 3D” McNally of DreamWorks Animation, who will focus on the evolution of 3D technology and how the entertainment industry is deploying 3D to mass media. McNally’s credits include Monsters vs. Aliens and Kung Fu Panda. Additional keynote speakers include Professors Yasushiro Koike and Shuji Nakamura as well as Douglas Trumbull of Trumbull Ventures LLC.

Among the leading-edge topics on the agenda, aside from 3D, include Green Technology, Solid State Lighting, Touch Technology and Flexible Displays. Several concurrent conferences will also take place during the convention, from an investors conference and four-hour workshops covering the fundamentals of information displays to a business symposium for strategic planners and marketing executives.

"The Los Angeles Convention Center enthusiastically looks forward to providing a world class venue and a memorable experience for the participants of The Society for Information Display event," said Pouria Abbassi, General Manager and CEO of LACC. "This event uniquely provides the opportunity to engage with the best minds and technologies in this growing industry."
