Director of Photography Jeff Regan Purchases Two AG-AF100 Large Imager HD Cinema Cameras for Wide-Ranging Productions Throughout San Francisco Bay Area

 

SECAUCUS, NJ (May 23, 2011) – Director of Photography Jeff Regan, principal of Shooting Star Video (Foster City, CA), has purchased two Panasonic AG-AF100 large imager HD cinema camcorders to serve a clientele encompassing broadcast, cable, corporate and independent productions in the San Francisco Bay area. In the months since taking delivery of the AF100s, Regan has served as DP on projects for top tech companies seeking the selective focus of a large sensor video camera.

Regan characterized the “compromises” of DOF adapters as loss of light and softening of image, and those of DSLRs as moiré, aliasing and skewing, 12-minute clip limits, and the need to double system audio.


“The AF100 allows proper video monitoring with HD-SDI and HDMI outputs,” he said.  “Features we have taken for granted in true video cameras but are missing in DSLRs, like built-in ND filters, time code, XLR audio inputs, professional image controls, and exposure controls like waveform and zebras, are all important to me.”

The AF100 incorporates a large 4/3-inch, 16:9 MOS imager (with an imaging area just slightly smaller than 35mm cinema film) that minimizes skew with fast imager scanning, and incorporates an optical low pass filter for elimination of aliasing and moiré. The camcorder records 1080 at 60i, 50i, 30P, 25P (Native) and 24P (Native), and 720 at 60p, 50p, 30p, 25p and 24p native in AVCHD’s highest-quality PH mode (maximum 24Mbps).
